Dear Parent/Carer
Campaign to raise awareness of Climate Change
I am writing to update you and your son/daughter with our plans of how we will support our students to have their concerns heard about Climate Change on Friday.
Firstly, we will support Mia Rumble’s (8PL) request to remove all drinks in plastic bottles from sale on Friday. Students will be able to access fresh water from our fountains and will still be able to purchase juice in cartons. Mia’s idea encourages us to reduce our impact on plastic waste and help the planet. Please make sure your son or daughter leaves home with their water bottle!
Secondly, the School Eco-Council has worked with staff to put the following arrangements in place:
- Every tutor group tomorrow morning will discuss the issues of climate change, to share their individual views on the extent of which this is impacting on our earth and the extinction of species over the last 20 years
- All students will have the opportunity to create their own environmental pledge. We will display these as a whole school presentation on our Hayesfield Display of Pledges
- At lunchtime, we will be showing a film called Earth Underwater in the Brougham Hayes Gym and the UOP Hall. We recommend that students bring a packed lunch (no cling film) to be able to watch the whole movie
- Finally, we will host a peaceful demonstration at lunchtime for students who wish to express their concerns about climate change, by holding a ‘Lie Down’at 1.00pm. This will be part of our ‘Hayesfield makes a Statement!’ campaign. Students who wish to make a statement about the earth and species dying are invited to attend. These ‘Lie Downs’ will be held on the
Upper Oldfield Park astro and the Brougham Hayes field
I am really proud to share our students’ ideas with you – they never fail to impress me with their passion and creativity. I look forward to showing you the photographs and student comments in the Bulletin on Friday afternoon.
Yours sincerely
Emma Yates
