Enrichment Week 2020

Enrichment Week 2020 looks set to be another spectacular week offering you the opportunity to experience a diverse and dynamic range of activities aligned to our school values. This year’s schedule of activities really does have something for everyone, enabling you to develop your moral courage, resilience, self-confidence and limitless aspirations along the way.

For Year 10, the expectation is that you will be doing your Work Experience for the full 5 days. This is a brilliant opportunity to experience the world of work. This is the first year we have offered this for the whole year group. If for some reason, you are not able to do the full 5 days then please contact careers@hayesfield.com.



 

Please note that this year the process is as follows:

Phase 1: View Only | 4th – 10th March

Log on to CHQ to see what is available this year and start planning your week.
This is ‘View Only’ you do not sign-up at this stage.


Phase 2: Sign-Up | 11th – 22nd March

Select the 3 activities per day you would like to do. Rank them in order of preference.


Phase 3: Processing | 19th – 30th March

You will not be able to change any preferences during this stage.


Phase 4: Allocation | 31st March onwards

You will be able to view the activities allocated to you from 31st March online using CHQ.


Phase 5: Payment | 31st March – 28th April

You will then have until the 28th April to pay on Scopay.

All Aboard Water Sports

A trip on the train to Bristol, then some time on the water in
kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and other small craft. This
activity will open your eyes to the enjoyment that can be had
messing about on the water. Try something new or develop your
skills. Just be prepared to get wet!
Arcs and Sparks

From taking your jumper off to lightening strikes, come and
explore the fascinating world of electrical discharge. Activities
include building a Lord Kelvin lightning machine, which creates
sparks purely from dropping water. We will also be using
the Van der Graaf, Tesla coils and other bits of kit. We will be
researching what causes thunder and lightning and why there
is light and noise. Also why high voltage from a Van der Graaf is
painful but not fatal, where as the much lower voltage of mains
electricity can quite easily be lethal. (Don’t worry we won’t be
trying this on you!). Come along for a hands-on, hair raising
experience.
Artistic Storytelling

Can you tell a story with images? Are you the next Steven
Spielberg? Can you captivate an audience and have them
clutching at their popcorn? Learn about mise-en-scene, try
your hand at using props or maybe stealing the show on screen.
Come and explore how the world looks through the lens of a
camera and work on creating something truly magical.
Bath City Farm Community Service/h6>

Have you ever considered how much work goes into the running
of a successful community project like Bath City Farm? Come
and spend a day volunteering at one of Bath’s most successful
community projects. Help clear branches and brambles from
woodland paths, conduct surveys of the types of flora and
fauna on the farm and help to conserve natural habitats for
wildlife. Come and join the team at Bath City Farm and help put
something back into your local community whilst learning about
the wildlife that lives there.
Bath Skyline Walk

Bath in 360 degrees! Embark on an adventure around the
beautiful Georgian city of Bath. The skyline walk allows
walkers to explore the Bath Skyline along miles of way marked
footpaths. Discover hidden valleys, rich in limestone flowers
and tranquil beech woodlands, with extensive views over Bath.
The 3 hour route also passes through the famous Prior Park
estate.
Leave Hayesfield at 9am for a one hour walk to Sham Castle
Lane. Start the walk at 10am.

Beastly Bugs

Be brave with beastly bugs on the Brougham Hayes field. You will gain confidence using identification keys for plants and invertebrates, perform a sampling activity to see what beasts we have at school. You will use microscopes and do experiments to develop skills that Steve Backshall would be proud of.
Bristol History Secrets - A Tour

Stroll through Bristol today and we’ll see a vibrant city, home to Brunel’s bridge, a natural gorge and contemporary street art renowned the world over. Yet behind Bristol’s streets, buildings and bridges lay dark secrets.

Throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries Britain’s slave traders transported over 3 million people. Some 500,000 enslaved Africans were carried on Bristol ships.

This trail explores a handful of the city’s seemingly everyday
sights to uncover how Bristol’s slavery past still permeates life here 500 years on. Be prepared for a day of walking!
Bristol Wild Place and High Ropes

This exciting high ropes activity is perfect for thrill seeking
Scientists! You will be given the chance to experience fun,
outdoor challenges at height in a safe environment, to push
yourselves out of your comfort zone, face personal challenges,
work together and support each other. During the day you will
conquer a High ropes course, with exhilarating climbs, the Leap
of Faith and Bristol’s only giant swing. Alongside this you’ll have
a chance to learn more about Ecology in an Education session,
as well as exploring Wild Place itself, including seeing the
giraffes, lemurs, cheetahs and other animals.
Cadbury World

Choc-full of discovery. A day at Cadbury World learning about
how chocolate is made, including looking at where and how
they source the cocoa, the history of chocolate, a look at the
manufacturing process and free samples to taste! You’ll develop
an understanding of how a global brand ensures it maintains its
position in the 21st Century. You’ll also get to visit the World’s
largest Cadbury shop. If you like chocolate then you’ll love this
trip.
Cake Baking and Decorating

Do you fancy yourself as a future Mary Berry or Prue Leith? Well
then sign up to Hayesfield’s very own Bake-off challenge. We
will start the day by holding a technical challenge to test your
culinary expertise before baking perfect Victoria sponges and
decorating them with ‘show-stopping’ designs. Your culinary
skills will see you being hailed a ‘star baker’ by all your family
friends and the best part is you get to eat the result of your hard
day’s labour.
Caving and Rock Climbing

The up and under day! A day of rock climbing and caving
activities where you will explore and tackle complex mazes,
chambers and caves deep in the Mendip Hills. The climbing is
based in an old quarry which extends 20 meters high and offers
a variety of climbs from beginner routes to more challenging
formations! Beginner or not, you will be challenged to go
outside of your caving and climbing comfort zone!
Chessington World of Adventures - STEM Visit

STEM visit to Chessington World of Adventures. Learn about
how Science, Technology and Maths help you to have a fabulous time at this fun-filled amusement park. Enjoy the rides whilst expanding your mind with how they work.

A jam packed, fun filled day exploring health and well-being
covering topics on healthy minds, bodies, eating and sleep!
There will be the chance to participate in both physical and
relaxing activities - a great way to start the summer.
Create an Illustrated Book

Are you a budding author or illustrator? You will spend 2 days writing and illustrating a book for a young person (3-9 years old) selecting one of our Hayesfield values as the moral of your story. You can work independently or in pairs to create your masterpiece. Please note that you must do both days.
Cyber Day

Cyber security and MI5, let’s do this! A hands-on day with some
of the fantastic Computing Team. We will be working in small
teams on various tasks and problem solving during the day, all
based around computers, programming and cyber security. We
will look at staying off the technology grid to avoid being hunted
by a security team, look at retro arcade games and consoles,
including game play, and programme some Micro Bit robotics to
race around the room.
Cycling Sportive

A day of cycling around Bristol & Bath that will help you improve
your cycling skills. We enjoy 2 routes during the day, riding
approximately 30 miles. We are lucky enough to have 15 bikes
available for students to use on a first come, first serve basis.
We will be stopping for lunch and ice creams!
Dance Workshop

You will be participating in a contemporary workshop, learning
repertoire from a professional dance workshop and developing
a performance piece. Suitable for you if you are wanting to study
GCSE Dance or are currently a Dance student.
Digital Detox

Are you spending too much time on your phone? Too much
time in front of a TV or computer? Are you struggling to relax?
Do you want to learn very simple strategies to help you relax?
Come and spend a day looking at how to digitally detox and
how moving away from using phones too much can be a really
good thing. You will do a variety of activities throughout the day
which will help you unwind and focus on what is most important
to you. You will have an opportunity to think about the goals
you want to achieve in life and reflect how you can go about
achieving these goals. You will learn ways to unwind that don’t
involve technology.
Dungeons and Dragons

Create your own characters and write compelling backstories
for them, utilise maths skills to assign attributes to your
characters and show moral courage as you play your characters
and charge into battle against nefarious foes armed with their

Eco Warrior Day

Do you have a passion for the environment? Come and join
us as we focus on how to be more eco-friendly and how to
combat climate change. You will have the chance to carry out
a range of activities such as making Eco bricks and creating
art and jewellery out of recyclable materials. We will also carry
out animal and plant surveys of the school site and make bug
hotels.
Escape Hayesfield

Can you solve the clues and escape the room before the time is
up? Come and try Hayesfield’s own escape room, based on the
history of the school, then see if you can design your own to try
out on your friends.
Explore Sociology

Do we live in an equal society? Could society work if we were all
equal?
If you are interested in Sociological ideas, whether you currently
study sociology or are planning to in the future, this will give
you an opportunity to discuss the big issues in our society today.
This day will involve discussion, written and creative tasks. We
will be classroom based and activities will include watching
documentaries which highlight some of the inequalities in
society and playing the inequality game! You will have the
opportunity to work individually and as a group.
Fabulous French Day

French culture and language. We will have an ESCAPE ROOM in

First Aid Fundamentals

Globe Theatre Trip - Romeo and Juliet

We are off to see Romeo and Juliet - Packed with love, family
feuds and a dose of comedy, Romeo and Juliet is a full-scale,
fast-paced theatre experience. We will travel from school and be
delivered directly to The Globe, Shakespeare’s theatre, where we
will enjoy a performance of Romeo and Juliet before travelling
safely back to Hayesfield full to the brim with Shakespeare’s
quotes.
Hair and Beauty Day

Do you enjoy styling your hair? Do you like learning about the
latest beauty hints and tips?
If you can answer yes to these questions then a day at Bath
College’s Academy could be just the thing for you to do in
Enrichment Week!
You will start in the hairdressing studio, washing and styling hair
on mannequins, getting help from the staff at the college. Then
you will move to the beauty room, where you will learn how to
massage hands using hot wax and then apply nail polish. The day
ends in the aromatherapy room where you will learn about the
healing power of oils.
Hairspray - West End Musical

"Good morning Baltimore’" (or Hayesfield, in this instance).
Promising to be a foot-tapping, cheer-giving and all round
delightful phenomenon, this is your chance to see the original
Broadway award-winning musical Hairspray brought to the
London Coliseum. We’ll hop on board the coaches in the
morning to arrive for lunch in London before shaking up
the West End with all "the nicest kids in town". With a cast
including the likes of Michael Ball- there won’t be any stopping
this beat when it gets started! A story of pursuing ambitions
despite all the apparent obstacles and coming out on top- a
treat for the eyes and the ears and the mind!
Jewellery Making

Experience a day learning different techniques to make
jewellery. Use our workshop and CAD equipment to develop
unique designs. Take inspiration from todays fashions, current
and past designers, different cultures and countries. All
materials will be supplied. Come prepared to experiment with
your creative ideas.
Marvellous Mindfulness

Make the most of every day by learning to live in the moment.
We will practice yoga, make mandalas and learn some
easy techniques for coping with worry and stress as well as
improving concentration.
Mind and Matter

A day of activities focused on developing the self confidence
to use your talents creatively and think outside the box. You
will spend the day using your creativity during craft activities.
Examples from the past include designing your own bag or
picture frame. Also why not come along and stretch your mind
by challenging your friends to one of the variety of board and
card games we have available for you to play throughout the day.
Minecraft and LEGO

During this day you will be set a number of challenges
within the blocky worlds of LEGO and Minecraft. You will need to
use your creativity and team working skills to tackle the tasks
set, as well as being resilient when your ideas don’t go as
planned. There will be prizes and rewards for amazing ideas,
innovative thinking and strong team work.
Money Madness

Do you have what it takes to be the next Deborah Meaden or
Alan Sugar? Can you spot a good investment on Dragon’s Den?
Can you make a fortune by buying and selling shares on the
stock market? Do you know when to take a risk? Can you afford
to buy your first car? Should you spend your money or should
you save it? Join the Maths team to take part in a series of
money-making challenges and compete against the rest of the
year group to see who is the richest at the end of the day.
Musical in a Day

Spend a day putting together a mini version of Mary Poppins,

to learn lines and songs before the day so that we can put it all
together to create a fabulous show. There will be a performance
after school open to parents and friends, to which you must be

Like the X-Factor, but with words. That’s one way of describing
a poetry slam. Born in New York, Slam is an exciting, high energy
spoken word poetry competition, with an emphasis on
supportive fun. Join spoken word artist Jonny Seagrave (‘Jonny
Fluffypunk’)- who regularly works alongside spoken word stars
such as Kate Tempest, Hollie McNish and Dizraeli- to find,
develop and share the poet that lurks in all of us. Serious or
silly; heartwarming, heartbreaking and all points in between.
Through working in groups and individually if you choose, you
will develop your self-confidence and increase your aspirations.

tracing Bristol’s transition from underground and illegal to
modern marketing and Capitalism. We might also do some
of our own designs over lunch at the historic harbourside
