Hayesfield Sixth Form Students Seize Success!
We are delighted to report another outstanding year of A Level Results. Students were rewarded today for their hard work, resilience and determination to succeed in a time that has presented them with many unique challenges.
Catherine Trueman, Director of Sixth Form, “What is most pleasing is how many students have been able to achieve the outstanding results that they richly deserve. Teaching through a mixture of in person and online lessons has been a huge learning curve for both staff and students, but the students have shown great maturity and determination and it’s really felt like we were working as one united team.”
This year, following the cancellation of exams, grades were awarded through a process of teacher assessed grades, against a national standard approved and awarded by the exam boards. Philip White, Head of School said, “Having experienced a positive moderation process with the exam boards, our students can take full credit for the high grades that have been awarded to them. We are immensely proud of all the work and achievements of our students, especially after such a difficult and disrupted year. Our teachers have worked tirelessly to ensure students are all able to progress onto further education and study, and we look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future.”
Libby Harris is heading to Cambridge to study English Literature (4A*) she has also been successful in the competitive Pomona College scholarship which will see her spend a fully-funded year at the exclusive Pomona College in California before moving on to Cambridge. Lydia Mandeville heads to Oxford to study French and German (1A*3As).
Four students, Bethan Horobin, Emily George, Elise Humphreys and Rosa Boursin have gained places to study medicine.
Six students are undertaking courses in Engineering and Technology; Mia Stevens and Noor Jabban will be studying Engineering alongside Maddie Quin who will be taking on Materials Science and Engineering. Hannah Knibb is pursuing Product Design Engineering and Alice Brown be studying Product Design whilst Serena Ashley commences Biomedical Engineering.
Amongst a number of students going on to study Business, Taylor Bird is studying at Nottingham Trent whilst the group of students studying Law include Elise Preedy and Paige Gillard. We are also particularly proud of our group of students going into NHS professions which include Holly Livingstone studying Nursing and Antonia Ford into paramedic science.
Emma Yates, Executive Headteacher said, “This cohort of students have shown how young people have had to quickly adapt to the many changes that have taken place in schools over the last two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They have taken many challenges in their stride and used these experiences to grow their resilience and determination to succeed. Staff and students have worked together to make the most of these difficult times and I am thrilled that the pandemic hasn’t stopped our students achieving their ambitions.”
