Hayesfield students voiced their concern about climate change by singing together at school during Friday lunchtime. Our students were able to support the national campaign without missing any school. It looks like they had great fun, too.

Our Open Afternoon starts at Brougham Hayes. Please use the Main Entrance to the school.

We are celebrating another set of fabulous GCSE results at Hayesfield Girls’ School. After a record-breaking year in 2018, which resulted in Hayesfield being placed first out of all schools in the South West in the Department for Education’s Performance Tables, 91% of all GCSE entries this year gained a passing grade of 4 or above. Further new school records have been set with an incredible 88% of students gaining a higher pass (Grade 4 or above) in English and Maths at Hayesfield, compared to 64% of students nationally in 2018. 87% of students gained 5 or more passes at Grade 4 and above in their GCSEs, including English and Maths. In addition, at Hayesfield, 96% of all students gained a grade 4 or above in English, compared to 62% of students nationally.

We couldn’t be any happier today for such a wonderful year group. Quite simply, they have performed brilliantly and we are very proud of their achievements. We are delighted that every single one of our students has achieved five or more GCSE grades; this is a remarkable achievement for a non-selective school like ours. With over a third of all GCSE exam entries being awarded the top grades of 7-9 there are many students who will be spoilt for choice for subjects to study at A Level!

There are many stories of success to share. The ten top performers gained 10 or more grades 7 and above: Ellamia Wise (8 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s and 1 grade 7), Esther Laird (6 grade 9s, 4 grade 8s), Mimi Young (5 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s and 2 grade 7s), Bethan Horobin (4 grade 9s, 5 grade 8s and 1 grade 7), Josie Fletcher (4 grade 9s, 5 grade 8s and 1 grade 7), Fiona MacDonell (3 grade 9s, 7 grade 8s), Amelia Pritchard (4 grade 9s, 2 8s and 4 grade 7s), Isabel Haig (3 grade 9s, 4 grade 8s and 3 7s), Misha Dewey (4 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s, 4 grade 7s), and Elsa Lang (5 grade 8s and 5 grade 7s). Most of these students also studied and attained top grades in Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level Global Perspectives.

A further 49 students gained 5 or more grades 7-9. A well done to Maggie Jones, Emily George, Emma Wilding, Nina Harvey, Honor Crockett-Chauveau, Julia Irvine, Sophie Wilson, Elise Humphreys, Marina Lyndon who all gained 9 or more of these top grades. Marina Lyndon, who secured a prestigious Arkwright Scholarship awarded to engineers of the future, also achieved 9 grades at 7+, including 3 grade 9s. One of these top grades was in Design and Technology.

These wonderful GCSE results are testament to the fact that our girls always give their all, and readily accept all the support we offer. We are especially proud of those who have progressed beyond our expectations; these girls now have full and diverse choices ahead. Another day of BIG celebrations for Hayesfield girls and their families!

Achieving Ambitions at Hayesfield Sixth Form

We are all exceptionally proud of our Sixth Form students’ achievements across a broad range of subjects this year. Every year, our students set themselves the highest of goals and work with us to achieve their personal success. It has been a privilege working with our talented and committed staff to secure bright futures for all of our students.

Students who applied for the prestigious universities of Oxford and Cambridge saw their dreams come true today as their places were confirmed following their A Level results. Three students had their places at Cambridge University confirmed: Nick Kinson will be reading Languages (Spanish and Russian); Freya Bark reading History and Politics and Catherine Irvine reading Social and Political Sciences. Furthermore, Hannah Powell will be reading History at Oxford.

Toby Healey secured a magnificent 3xA*grades, 1x Distinction * grade and 1 x A grade and is going to Manchester University to study Computer Science. Meanwhile, James Catt is going to study at Staffordshire University on the first Esports degree in the country.

Lucia Vinyard is heading off on a different pathway and has secured a place at Rose Bruford College of Performance and Theatre in London. Dance student, Orla Hardie has secured a place at ‘The Place’ in London, which is one of the top contemporary dance schools in Europe. Josie Hollin will be heading North to Ballet West School in Scotland.

Hayesfield student achievements stretch beyond the academic and Deputy Head Student, Isobelle Robinson-Gordon, is the youngest ever student to secure an internship at the Guardian newspaper during her Gap Year before heading off to University. We’re looking forward to seeing her by-lines in the near future.

Calling all former students

If you’re a former student of Hayesfield Girls’ School and Mixed Sixth Form, we want to hear from you!
Your experiences since leaving could help to motivate and inspire our current students to feel more confident in making decisions about their future. We’d love you to join our alumni network and stay connected with the school.
We’ve partnered with the national education charity Future First, who specialise in helping schools like ours to stay connected with their former students.

You can choose how and when you help – perhaps you can act as a career and education role model, provide work experience, become a mentor in person or online, or help with donations, fundraising or even apply to become a governor.
It doesn’t matter when you left us, whether you’re in further education or employment, whether you still live nearby or have moved further away, there are still ways you can help.

In order to sign up, just follow this link and fill in the online form – we promise it will only take a couple of minutes.

Summer Homework

We think it is important for our students to have some academic work complete over the long summer holiday to keep their brains active. As it is a holiday, we are not setting too much work! Staff will set Summer Holiday work in in English and Maths only for Year 7 and Year 8 students (each subject should take no more than 3 hours over the holiday period). In Year 9 staff will set homework in English, Maths and Science. If your daughter is in Year 10, she will be set preparatory work for Year 11 by all her subject teachers.

Homework will be marked and returned within 3 weeks of the start of the new school year.

Please click here to download the Year 6 Welcome Evening Presentation 2019 [PDF]

Now that we have the results of the allocation of places to Hayesfield, managed by the Local Authority, I am writing to welcome you and your daughter to our School. It is a very exciting time for all involved and we are looking forward to meeting and working with you and your daughter. We are dedicated to securing a positive transition process from primary school to secondary school for all our students and feel that your involvement and commitment is crucial.

The first date for your diary is our Welcome Evening for Year 6 Parents, which is being held on Thursday 20th June 2019. This will take place at the Upper Oldfield Park Campus from 5.45pm – 7.30pm. Please be aware that, unfortunately, there is no on-site parking available and so you will need to allocate time to find some parking. Although this evening is for you, the parents, your daughter is very welcome to attend, too.

The programme for the Welcome Evening is attached.
It is important that you bring your programme with you to this event as we have groups of parents scheduled for talks in the Roper Theatre at different times.

Talk 1 – Welcome and Info programme 2019 [PDF]
Talk 2 – Welcome and Info programme 2019 [PDF]

By the time we see you in June, Mrs Venables the Year 7 Transition and Pastoral Manager, will have visited the majority of our prospective students in their Primary Schools to meet them prior to their Induction Day on the 4th July. During these visits, she will answer many questions with the help of our Year 7 Student Buddies.

We appreciate you may also have lots of questions regarding your daughter starting at Hayesfield in September and our Welcome Evening is a hugely valuable opportunity to have these questions answered and find out more information that will be useful to you. During this event you will have the opportunity to mingle with new parents and meet members of our staff who will be working with your daughter.

As part of the transition process, your daughter has the opportunity to nominate three friends that she works well with and would like to be in a tutor group with. We will endeavour to place her in a tutor group with at least one of these friends. Please discuss this choice with your daughter so that you are all happy with her nominations before the Welcome Evening. At this event you will then be asked to complete a Friendship Request slip with her choices and these will be collected at the end of the evening.

We are currently in the process of preparing the Parents’ Handbook 2019 which will be available for you to collect on the evening and will be published on our website nearer that time. The Handbook is full of very useful information about joining our Hayesfield community and contains a Reply Booklet for you to complete.

Following on from the Welcome Evening we are looking forward to your daughter spending the day with us on her Induction Day on Thursday 4th July when she will have the opportunity to meet the rest of the year group and enjoy a complimentary school lunch. By the end of this day we are certain your daughter will feel less nervous, more confident and very excited about coming to Hayesfield in September.

Once again, welcome to our school and I look forward to meeting you on the Thursday 20th June.

Yours sincerely

Emma Yates
Headteacher
