THE HAYESFIELD CURRICULUM

Performance and Arts Faculty

The beating heart of Hayesfield, the Performance and Arts Faculty is proud of the enriching and highly enjoyable curriculum and activities that it provides for all Hayesfield students. We are a diverse faculty but all subjects have at their heart the desire to inspire students with skills and values that will equip them across their whole lives as well as to provide an outstanding educational experience.

Faculty Subjects

Art

In the Art Department we aim to equip our students with useful skills for life particularly in a society where the creative industries, both locally and nationally, are some of the fastest growing ones. We are very proud of the positive, friendly and inclusive atmosphere of possibilities that we create together within the Art department.

Dance

Dance is an integral part of the Performance and Arts faculty at Hayesfield. Dance at Hayesfield plays a key role in providing students with the opportunity to perform with confidence to an audience.

They do this through developing their ability to understand choreographic processes by researching different stimulus, improvising, generating movement, structuring a piece of dance, refining a dance, developing and improving physical, technical and expressive skills, appreciating different dance works and choreographers approaches.

KS4 Revision Resources

There are many ways in which you can support your daughter in the study of Dance.  Revision guides and booklets to support section A and B of the paper have been placed in the Year 11 teams folder.

Drama

Drama at Hayesfield empowers students to be able to act, think creatively, and to work collaboratively. It enhances their cultural capital allowing them to build resilience and develop their character socially, morally and academically. It will foster in them the intrinsic motivation to succeed and take personal responsibility whilst adopting lifelong cooperative skills.

The Drama curriculum enables students to develop a passion for all aspects of  Drama and the Theatrical arts such as performance, design, and backstage.  Students work collaboratively across these elements of theatre to create powerful and thought provoking work.

The Drama department supports the schools core values of moral courage, self confidence, resilience and limitless aspiration.

KS4

The intention of the KS4 curriculum is to develop a wider understanding and appreciation of World drama and playwrights.  Students are expected to take responsibility for self-directing, learning substantial roles and understanding how to communicate nonverbally to an audience and how to interpret a play or scene and  to make decisions regarding technical elements.

The KS4 curriculum makes distinct and clear links to the KS5 curriculum, preparing students for the academic rigour of A Levels (whether Theatre Studies or not) and building a foundation of the skills they need to succeed at undergraduate level in HE.

Music

The Music department, part of the beating heart of Hayesfield, delivers a broad and ambitious curriculum with a strong focus on practical music making. We seek to develop the core skills of singing, performing, composing and listening and through this engender a lifelong love of music and an understanding of how music works. Students will also have their eyes opened to the wide variety or career choices available within music and through music.

Many careers in music can be perceived as having a gender bias. As a girls’ school, Hayesfield ensures that these biases are broken down in order that all students see all music paths as relevant
and accessible should they so choose.

Physical Education

At Hayesfield, we aim to nurture and grow a lifelong love of physical activity in all our students and equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to support good physical and mental health, which is imperative in the current climate.

Our curriculum is designed so that all students build the skills and knowledge of a wide range of activities so that they have the confidence and desire to lead an active healthy life, whilst supporting our
students to fulfil their potential and compete in sport at County, Regional or National standard.

This is reflected in our Key Stage 4 options where we offer the GCSE PE and NCFE Level 2 in Health & Fitness to cater for the
needs and interests of all our students.

Enriching Learning

Enrichment activities are central to provision of all subjects in the performance and arts faculty. All activities have open access to all students and inclusivity is important to us. Students work across year groups breaking down the barriers between the older and younger students. The activities they do inspire confidence and understanding and students have many opportunities to be leaders.
