World Book Day
Date: Wednesday 11th March 2026, Week B
Theme: Characters and Icons From Female Authors
This year’s theme will be characters created by female authors – these characters can be male or female and come from any novel or short story written by a woman.
Costume: Costume is always optional; however, it is wonderful to get involved and have fun on the day. But if not, you can always show your enthusiasm in other ways, such as by simply bringing in a copy of the book/author you want to celebrate. If this is the case, please come in normal school uniform. Costumes need to be of a character from a novel/story by a female writer.

Ideas for costumes could include:
- Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins
- Doctor Frankenstein or the Creature from Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
- Daisy and Hazel from Murder Most Unladylike by Robin Stevens
- Beatrice Prior from the Divergent series by Veronica Roth
- Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot from Agatha Christie’s series of detective novels
- Characters from the Heartstopper series by Alice Oseman
On both sites there will be a Creative Costume Catwalk at lunch for any who wish to share their amazing costumes. They will be judged and the winners decided by members of staff. You could even do a group costume together.
Costume Prizes: As always, prizes are focussed on being creative with what you have, not on going out of your way to buy costumes or spend money on resources to make them. To help with this, we will be sharing creative costume ideas in the Bulletin.
Please do talk to your English teacher or Mrs Carter in the Bookeyrie if you are struggling for ideas!
