Gifted and Talented students in Art and Photography:
- think and express themselves in creative, original ways, often challenging or extending the brief given
- enjoy creating in visual forms, are driven by ideas, imagination and personal experience, observation, research, work in different media, humour or esoteric fancy
- explore ideas and processes, initiate ideas, experiment
- seek out and apply a wide range of influences, references and inspirations
- enjoy working in a range of styles, materials and in different scales
- exploit the characteristics of materials and processes to create new/better work
- work through frustrations with new techniques to master these, enjoy new skills and become technically adept
- critically evaluate their own work and that of others ,making unusual connections and applying that reflection to their own work in innovative ways
Beyond the classroom students:
- create work for their own pleasure and/or for the joy of trying out new ideas
- enjoy new exhibitions in Bath’s various galleries and museums
- find interesting objects in charity shops as new subjects or materials for projects
- use school visits, family outings and local jaunts to find new inspirations
- talk with visiting students to the school about art in their home country, sharing ideas
- enjoy films with a distinctive visual style, linked to a particular period of art history, or based around specific pieces or artists (the School Library has some DVDs)
- create artwork for the school magazine, backdrops or costumes for drama productions
- ask the School Librarian for advice on researching art and artists of interest via the school library, Bath libraries, interlibrary loans and the internet
- take photographs on family, school or social occasions, or seek to document events by photography or an appropriate medium
- seek out appropriate programmes on BBC Four, BBC Two and Radio Four, use iTunesU to listen to university lectures on art or photography
- listen to authors visiting local bookshops or museums
