Enriching Experiences

Even with the country in lockdown, we can still explore the cultural landscape through the comfort of our own front rooms. Here you will find a wide range of links to cultural events, shows, activities and exhibitions to inspire and enrich our cultural capital. From a Dance competition to a virtual tour of the Natural History Museum- you are just a few clicks away. We aim to update this section regularly so come back each month to check-out the latest events we have found.

Art

So many galleries around the world now have virtual tours online so you can access their collections like never before!

  • Tate Modern:
    Explore contemporary art and changing exhibitions, hear from the artists themselves at this world famous gallery
  • The Courtald Gallery of Art:
    It’s room by room, so start at the beginning with Cranach the Elder’s ‘Adam and Eve’, scoot through the portraits of old dead people in room four and then head straight for the Impressionist and modernist delights of rooms six and seven. Van Gogh, Manet, Kandinsky? Yes please!
  • Tom Quigley’s Online Art lessons:
    An excellent source of inspiration and advice for GCSE and A level students

 


Dance

So many dance companies have found innovative ways for you to experience their work despite not being able to perform live.

  • Creativity Unlocked bboDance competition:
    Enter a National Dance competition by choreographing and videoing your dance to a given piece of music
  • Dance During Lockdown:
    CBBC have started a series called Celebrity Supply Teacher; this week the world famous Ballet Dancer and former Strictly host Darcey Bussell was invited to take part in a special Dance class. So take some time in your day to watch this episode!
  • Ballet Active at English National Ballet:
    The English National Ballet are offering a 7-day free trial so that you can experience a range of Dance and Fitness classes such as Beginner Ballet, Barre Fit and Yoga

 


Drama

You may not be able to go to the theatre, so let the theatre come to you! Live productions and backstage tours from some of the world’s leading theatre companies.

  • Treasure Island:
    An exciting musical performed live! Watch via WhatsOnStage. This website also has links to many more shows
  • Shakespeares’ Globe:
    This world renowned venue has it’s own website from which you can take a tour or watch a play! Catch Romeo and Juliet for free!
  • Talking Heads:
    Available via the BBCiplayer A series of monologues by award winning play wright Alan Bennett

 


Music

We can easily listen to music via the internet but these live events are well worth exploring.

  • Royal Opera House:
    They have continued to provide a full programme of events, some free and some ticketed. All are worth considering from Alice in Wonderland to an All Star Gala
  • Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra:
    Recorded by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. A Beautiful piece and an excellent introduction to the world of classical music
  • Blob Opera:
    Create your won operatic masterpiece with these comedy creatures!

 


Museums

Museums have found really diverse ways of allowing you to explore their collections. Here are a few of our favourites!

  • British Museum:
    Explore some of 8,000,000 artefacts held in Britain’s most popular tourist attraction through this interactive website
  • Roman Baths:
    Right on our doorstep, take a stroll with google streetview through our very own Roman Baths!
  • Natural History Museum:
    From the Fantastic Beasts of Harry Potter fame to the Blue Whale, explore the galleries of this most iconic of British institutions
