U12 County Cup Semi Final

A huge congratulations to the highly successful and talented Year 7 football team who this week faced Haygrove School in the county semi final. The Hayesfield girls performed extremely well to be 5-2 up at half time and win the game 9-2 which is a very impressive score at this stage Im the competition.

Goals came from player of the match Sofia (7PL (4)), Polly (7PL), Arabella (7PL) and Flo (7SR). The girls now face Millfield in the county final which will be held in Bridgewater in April! Thank you also to Mr Holbrook who came to run the line for our team! So proud of you girls and can’t wait for the final!

U15 Indoor Cricket Round 2

On Tuesday 25th February the U15 Cricket team returned to Wellsway for round 2 of the Indoor Cricket competition. Unfortunately St.Katherines proved too strong for us in this round and we were knocked out. However the girls should be proud of a much improved performance from the last round with better overall batting figures and less runs given away on extra’s from our bowling. Congratulations to Jessica and Leila who were awarded players of the match.

hank you to the girls for their enthusiasm and focus during this competition. Although indoor cricket is now over for them this year there is still summer cricket to come with some exciting fixtures! Good luck!

U15 Cricket Team: Caoimhe (9AL), Leila (9SL), Elsie (9EL), Jessica (9SL), Cecilia (9SL), Clara (9SL), Rose (9AL), Grace (9SL).

Year 10 Netball  B&NES Tournament

Congratulations to our Year 10 Netball team who played phenomenally well throughout the whole tournament, despite the adverse weather conditions! The girls beat all opposition teams convincingly and should be very proud of themselves!

Hayesfield Girls’ School Scores Top 2% in National Sports Rankings

Hayesfield Girls’ School is thrilled to announce its inclusion in the prestigious Top 100 Schools for Sporting Excellence in 2024 (School Sports Magazine, 7th February 2025), reaching 97th place. This national recognition places Hayesfield amongst the top 2% of schools in the country for sporting achievement. They are also the highest non-selective state girls school for sport in the country.

This remarkable accomplishment highlights the school’s commitment to fostering sporting talent and dedication and reflects achievements across a number of sports. Teams representing age groups from Y7 to Y13 have competed in National competitions across Athletics, Swimming, Netball, Hockey, Football and Cross Country, regularly reaching Regional and National Finals. Highlights from 2023/2024 include finishing 5th in the Swimming National Finals, reaching Semi Finals (U12) and Quarter Finals (U16) of the Football National Cup as well as our Athletes finishing 3rd in the Regional Final at Millfield.

Erin McCarthy, Head of Sport at Hayesfield, expressed her delight, stating, “This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff and students at Hayesfield. The girls have demonstrated exceptional teamwork and commitment to their respective sports, and this recognition will undoubtedly fuel their determination to achieve even greater success.  To be acknowledged alongside prominent South West schools such as Millfield, Taunton School, and Clifton College makes this achievement even more remarkable.”

The success at Hayesfield is underpinned by a wide ranging extra curricular provision where the aim is to ensure all our students have access to a high quality extra curricular experience and whilst we are very proud of the achievements of our teams we are also incredibly proud of the high rate of participation of all our students. All this against the backdrop of a big drop in participation rates of teen age girls nationally.

Year 7 Netballers

Our Year 7 Netballers had a great afternoon at the KES invitational tournament this week! Two great wins against Prior Park and Monkton, combined with two draws against KES and Kingswood led to them finishing in 2nd place overall!

Year 9/10 Football

Last week the year 9/10 girls football went to Somervale School to play in the BANES football
tournament. This tournament was a year 10/11 tournament but that didn’t stop our girls from
making it to the play-offs for third place! We played 3 games in our pool, beating Chew Valley (1-0),
Oldfield (2-0) and drawing with Norton Hill (0-0). Next, we played Wellsway who piped us at the post
beating us 1-0.

The girls played some lovely football, worked well as a team and most certainly didn’t look out of
place playing girls older than them. You should all be so proud of yourselves for the strength and
resilience you showed throughout every game in cold, wet conditions! Well done!

Team: Lyra (10SR), Lily (10SR), Amelia (9PR), Saskia (9PR), Claudia (9PL), Ava (9SL), Nieve (9PL), Scarlett (10SR), Elsa (10EL)

BANES Netball Tournament

Well done, team

Year 11 Netball Team: Gracie (11AR), Poppy (11PL), Poppy (11EL), Kaiya (11PL), Matilda (11PL), Lily (11AL), Tia (11PR) and Charlotte (11AL).

World Book Day 2025

Theme: Mystery and Detective Stories

What makes a good mystery? Why do we love reading about detectives and criminal masterminds? What do we look for in a satisfying reveal of a crime? Once again, Hayesfield will be celebrating World Book Day 2025 on Thursday 6th March. To celebrate the joy of reading and sharing stories, all students and staff are encouraged to come to school dressed in costume (or with a prop) as either their favourite literary detective, favourite literary master criminal, or simply a character from a mystery story.

Key details:
Date: Thursday 6th March 2025, Week A
Costume: Costume is always optional – however it is wonderful to get involved and have fun on the day. Some may prefer to simply celebrate by bringing in a book, prop or talking about the theme. If this is the case, come in normal school uniform; you can show your enthusiasm in other ways. Costume must be a character from a detective or mystery book – this could be a detective or a criminal, or a character from your favourite mystery story.

Costume Prizes: As always, prizes are focussed on being creative with what you have – not on going out of your way to buy costumes or new resources to come up with costumes.  On both sites there will be a Creative Costume Catwalk at lunch – for any who wish to share their amazing costumes. They will be judged and the winners decided by members of staff. Ideas for costumes include: Daisy or Hazel from Murder Most Unladylike, Pip in A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, Enola Holmes, or classic characters such as Sherlock Holmes, Miss Marple, Hercule Poirot and Father Brown.

Get involved:
During the week leading up to World Book Day there will be activities running in The Book-Eyrie. Create your own codes, solve puzzles and murder mysteries with Murdle, and there will be a scavenger hunt with clues placed around UOP to collect. World Book Day vouchers will be distributed after half term, which can be used in most supermarkets and bookshops to get a discount on purchases or a free World Book Day book.

World Book Day Creative Writing Competition
As part of our World Book Day celebrations, we will be running a creative writing competition with winning entries receiving vouchers for the bookshop, Mr B’s Emporium. Entries should be no more than 1000 words and be based around the theme: detective and mystery stories. Your entry could be a complete short story, or an opening chapter and should be handed in to The Book Eyrie or emailed to h.bloomfield@hayesfield.com by Friday 21st March.
For more information about any of these activities, please see Mr Skelton or Miss Bloomfield.

U18 County Cup Semi-Final

Well done to our amazing U18 football team who this week faced Gordano School away in the Somerset County Cup Semi Final.

The girls were playing for a place in the prestigious Somerset County Cup final and put in an amazing performance on a very muddy pitch! Tia scored an early opener followed by a second early on in the first half and captain Mils finished the first half by scoring a great penalty.

The Hayesfield team came out with a fantastic start to the second half and really dominated the play. Tia added a further 3 goals finishing her tally on an impressive 5 goals!

Overall the team won 6-0 and now face Millfield School in the Cup Final. The team played so well and put together a fantastic performance. Goal scorer Tia was named player of the match by her opponents. A huge well done also to Nicky who stepped up to play in goal and had an amazing game!

U13 Girls’ Round 1 County Indoor Cricket Competition

On Tuesday 28th January the U13s travelled to Wellways to compete in the first round of the indoor county cricket competition. In order to progress to the next round we needed to win our two matches against Wellsway and Broadlands. The girls played some brilliant cricket with some excellent individual performances too winning both games so we are now off to the second round in March! All 6 of our bowlers showed great accuracy and consistency, giving away very few extras, putting the batting teams under pressure. Charlotte took a total of 6 wickets for 7 runs! Isabelle also bowled a wicket maiden over. Lucy took 2 wickets with some great swing on them and Bella claimed 1 for herself too thanks to her consistent bowling. Holly and Farrah bowled some lovely length balls that the batting team struggled to do anything with. Grace was outstanding, allowing few balls from our speedy bowlers past her, again limiting any extras. Sophia confidently stepped up to dominate our batting, setting her sights on that back wall for 4s and 6s! Overall a fantastic performance from our girls and we are looking forward to stepping up again in the next round.

U13 Team: Bella (7EL), Lucy (7SL), Charlotte (7PR), Grace (7SR), Isabelle (8PR), Farrah (8AR), Sophia (7PR), Holly (7SR).

U14 Football

On Tuesday 21 st January our U14 football team travelled to Somervale School to play in the 3 rd round of the Somerset Cup. They played beautiful football throughout the game and showed composure on the ball and in front of goal. The girls must be commended on their sportsmanship and how they conducted themselves throughout the game. Well done girls, a great game of football, highlighting your talents and character.

U14 Team: Libby (9SL), Saskia (9PR), Claudia (9PL), Ava (9SL), Megan (9PL), Daphne (8SL), Keria (8SL), Elodie (9SL), Lexi (8SL), Nieve (9PL), Esme (8SL), Amelia (9PR), Sophia (8SL), Georgia (8SL).

U13 Utilita Cup
Wow what a day our U13 football team had on Friday at the South West Regional U13 Utilita cup.
The team had qualified from the Bristol Rovers area tournament back in November to represent both Hayesfield and Bristol Rovers at the South West event hosted by Bristol City.
The girls faced really tough opponents in Swansea, Cardiff, Exeter City, Plymouth, Newport County, Portsmouth, Bristol City and Cheltenham. They played some amazing football and battled hard against some very impressive teams who had National representatives within their squads. Sadly the team narrowly missed out on a semi final place but had a great day and should look back with so much pride at the level they are performing at!
Not only were the EFL clubs in attendance but also the ITV west-country news crew and England scouts which was very exciting for the girls!
I am so proud of their achievements and had the best day with the team enjoying a fantastic day of football.
U13 Football Team: Sofia (7PR), Tilly (8PR), Daphne (8SL), Esme (8SL), Georgia (8SL), Keira (8SL) Lexi (8SL) Sophia (8SL) and Nicole (8SR).

Southwest Trampolining Championships
A huge congratulations to our Trampolinists who competed in the South West Championships this weekend. They were up against very difficult competition and the girls performed with excellent focus and precision.
We are delighted to say that two of our teams have qualified for the National Finals in March and we wish them all the best. The girls work so hard at training week in and week out and this has been demonstrated in their results.
A special mention to Amelie (9AL) who qualified individually as well as in her team for the National Finals also Megan (9PL), Caoimhe (9AL), Maisie (10PR), Amelie (9AL), Isla (8PR), Mia (9SL), Isla (7SL).

Avon Cross Country Championships

This weekend a team of our students competed in the Avon Championships following qualification in the previous round. The conditions were tough and competition was impressive, as it was the top 40 girls in Avon only. The morning started off strong with Elsa (7PL) and Sofia (7PR) finishing in 6th and 12th respectively. Eva Howard finished 14th in the Junior category after an impressive, intense race!

Congratulations to our Inter Team – Polly (10SR), Poppy (11AR), Aila (11SL) and Poppy (11EL). U13 National Shield Quarter Finalists

Our U13 Netball team travelled to Churchers College in Plymouth this week to play their Quarter final match. The whole team put out an exceptionally strong performance entering the final quarter 16-16. Despite an inspiring team talk from Em, the match finished 18-20 to Churchers. Well done to all and special mention to Juliette (8PL) and Em (8SR) as Player of the Match.

U12 Netball

Our U12 Netball team took to the court to play in the Quarter final of the National Shield against Claremont Fan Independent School, London. We are overwhelmingly proud of the team who embodied all of our values throughout a tough game. We were trailing by 1 at half time and the game was so competitive, it could have gone either way. The girls were very resilient but unfortunately couldn’t take the lead, losing narrowly. The team enjoyed cookies and juice from Mr White to finish the afternoon! Congratulations to all and to Player of the match – Florence (7SL).

U12 Football

Well done to our amazing U12 Football team who this week played Oldfield School in the Somerset County Cup quarter final. The girls played so well and won the game 8-0 to secure a place in the semi final! Well done to Chiho (7ER) who was voted player of the match for the team after scoring a fantastic opener for Hayesfield. We can’t wait for the semi-final and some more fun football!

Year 9 Netball vs KES
A great evening on Netball for our Year 9 A and B team. It was a fantastic experience to play at Bath University on their prestigious courts. Our A team showed how much they have developed throughout the season, demonstrating excellent teamwork and really understanding each others movement to be able to bring the ball down the court fluently. They finished with a 17-7 win, well done to players of the match Amity (9EL) and Eva (9EL).
Our Y9B team had a great experience and built throughout the game. They showed excellent flexibility in their ability to play a range of positions. Unfortunately they could not bring the win home on this occasion but took a lot away from the game. We were very impressed with their positivity through the match. Well done to Players of the match Florence (9EL) and Elsie (9EL).

U16 Football

On Monday our U16 football team made the journey to LEAF Academy School, Bournemouth to play in the ESFA 5th round. The Hayesfield Girls started strong with Theonie E-S (10PL) finding the back of the net within the first 2 minutes of the game starting. This helped set the tone for the rest of the first half, with the girls working hard in defence, putting passes together in the middle and having multiple chances on goal.

This hard worked paid off and once again Theonie found the back of the net to make it 2-0 to Hayesfield coming into the break. LEAF where a strong, physical team and we knew they were going to come out fighting in the second half. The Hayesfield defence worked tirelessly to keep them at bay with Scarlett B putting her neck on the line in goals to make sure their hard work paid off.

Unfortunately, LEAF came into the game and we sadly lost bowing out of the ESFA. We are all so proud of what the girls have achieved this season already. Reaching the final 32 teams out of 340 in is a massive achievement in itself. We now dust ourselves off and move our focus to the Somerset Cup. Well Done girls!

Lusciana F (10AR), Polly P (10SR), Martha M (10PR), Stella McN (11ER), Theonie E-S (10PL), Tia M (11PR), Connie M (11ER), Millie T (11ER), Lyra B (10sr), Scarlett B (10SR), Poppy F (11EL), Lily E (10SR), Elsa P (10EL).

New Sports

Our Year 10 and 11 PE classes tried out two new sports this week during their core lessons- Kinball and Battle Archery. Lots of fun and learning of new skills for the girls!

B&NES Indoor Athletics Competition at Wellsway

We took a team of Year 7 and a team of Year 8 Athletes to compete in the B&NES Indoor Athletics competition on Thursday 13th December.  This required all girls to take place in multiple events on the track and in field events too.  There was a great team spirit amongst both teams and they all supported each other throughout.  Some outstanding individual results and a ‘have a go’ attitude resulted in the Year 7 team winning the overall competition and the Year 8 team finishing in 2nd place.  This means that both teams have qualified for the county finals at the University of West of England in February – I can’t wait to see you all excel again!!

The Year 7 team: Phoebe (7SR), Myla (7AR), Elsa (7PL), Annika (7EL)  Lucy (7SL) Molly (7PL), Florence A (7SL), Florence L (7ER)

The Year 8 team: Ursie (8EL), Amelie (8AR), Elloise (8EL), Hannah (8SL), Lola (8ER), Arya (8ER)

U12 Football

Our fantastic Year 7 football team played Mangotsfield School in the 3rd Round of the National Cup. It was absolutely freezing at Odd Down but the girls played some fantastic football and most importantly all stuck together and worked hard as a team! They went 1-0 up after 30 seconds but the game finished 2-2 and the score remained the same after extra time so unfortunately went to penalties, the cruelest decider in sport. Sadly for the Hayesfield team Mangotsfield were victorious in the shoot out.

Our girls did us proud in every way, their work ethic, team spirit and support of each other was amazing! We go again in the Somerset Cup which we are determined to win! Thank you to Mils (13SR) for her ongoing support of the team at LEAP and early bird training and for joining us on a very cold Wednesday evening! We really appreciate her help and encouragement.

U19 Football

Well done to our great U19 team who reached the final 32 schools nationally. We faced Parkstone Grammer from Poole in Round 4 of the competition who were a very competitive and well organised team.

The girls defended extremely well but sadly lost the game 4-1. Player of the match is awarded to captain Mils (13SR) who throughout the season has helped to organise the team, is a great leader on the pitch and always puts 10000% into every game!
