FOOTBALL FINALS WEEK
This week we have had a hugely exciting time with our Hayesfield football teams who following an outstanding season all made it through to their respective county football finals , being the only school to do so.
Our U12, U14, U16 and U18 teams have all worked hard since September to reach the final facing schools from Chard to Clevedon along the way, we have traveled a lot of miles and scored over 105 goals in the process and conceding only 9 in this competition.
Our finals kicked off with our U16 team who faced a solid Clevedon side. The girls went 2-0 down in the first half but continued to dig deep with a late comeback goal from Polly and a last minute screamer from Theonie to take us to 2-2 and penalties. The penalties were extremely tight and went to the 10th penalty taker with Scarlett our goal keeper scoring the winner and saving Clevedon’s final penalty to win the game for Hayesfield and crown our U16s county champ rooms!
On Wednesday we faced Millfield who we knew would be an extremely good and well organised side. Millfield took an early lead in the first half but the Hayesfield team put in a total team performance working so hard to hold on and create attacking opportunities. It wasn’t our day and the final score was 1-0 to Hayesfield and we are very proud of our county runners up who have given so much over their time at Hayesfield and were the main catalysts in the growth and development of Hayesfield football.
On Thursday we had a double header with our U12 facing Millfield and U14 playing Gordano.
The U12 played first on a boiling hot day and as always were meticulous in their preparation and organisation. The girls really worked Millfield hard and broke down their solid defence and goal keeper scoring 4 goals all in a real team fashion. The team won 4-2 and retained the U12 county title for Hayesfield. We are so proud of this wonderful team and how they have settled into secondary school football – the future is so bright for this group of girls!
Our U14 were wonderful spectators to our U12 team and completed their preparations brilliantly led by captain Elodie and vice captain Lexi. The girls battled really hard across the pitch and matched Gordano man for man all working so hard to defend hard and create opportunities. This was a really tight match and despite our girls fantastic performance and great team effort it wasn’t our day and Gordano squeezed a 1-0 win. Our U14 have had an amazing season with the most games out of any team and a really wonderful bond – we are so proud of our county runners up and can’t wait to build on their successes next season.
After over 45 football fixtures this season across all competitions, 242 goals scored, 42 goals conceded, 4 county finals, 2 county runners up, a Utilita Cup win and successes at National level we are so proud of everyone involved in football at Hayesfield and cannot wait to grow next season!
