U14 Football Vs Downend
Our U14 football team had a really tough game last week facing Downend School who last year reached the final 16 schools in England in the competition.
The girls played superbly and defended fantastically to hold Downend to 0-0 for most of the game but sadly lost 1-0 in the final few minutes of the game. The whole team played so well and stuck together as a team to fend off some amazing attacking advances from Downend.
Although this now means the girls are out of the National Cup they should feel so proud to have reached the final 64 of over 400 schools nationwide. With the county and Utilita cup still to play for the girls will not be short of football over the upcoming months and we would like to thank them all for their hard work and commitment so far this season.
U19 Football Somerset Cup Round 1
On Thursday our U19 football team played the first round of the Somerset Cup against Writhlington School.
Despite the freezing cold conditions, we started the game really well taking the lead through an early goal from Naomi. We were dominant throughout the match and the final score was 9-1! There were some fantastic goals on display, particularly from Nicky from long-range and Greta hitting the top corner. Ruby also had a brilliant solo goal cutting in from the left wing.
Goalscorers:
Naomi (1), Tia (1), Mils (4!), Greta (1), Ruby (1), Nicky (1).
Player of the match:
It could go to any one of our team, particularly our goalscorers, but I have to give it to Madi. She was a rock in defence and, despite not playing much football in the past, it was lovely to see Madi really enjoying herself on the pitch and her commitment to the team is inspiring!
Team list:
Holly (12ER), Nicky (12SR), Hannah (12EL), Jemima (12EL), Naomi (12SR), Ruby (13AL), Nell (12AL), Mils (13SR), Madi (12AR), Tia (11PR), Greta (12PR), Poppy (11EL).
U’12 Hockey vs Kingswood:
Following the girls’ success at the Avon County Plate last week we travelled to Kingswood to play against their team.
A fantastic short corner routine saw Flo put the ball in the back of the net to put us 1-0 up in the first quarter. While we definitely had the vast majority of possession of both the ball and the territory, we struggled to convert any of our many shots into goals.
Kingswood leveled the score in the second quarter, and again we had lots of really promising attacks, but Kingswood were able to keep the score level due to some excellent play by their goal keeper.
In the final quarter our girls stepped up a gear, and started to convert their many chances. In the space of 8 minutes the girls scored 3 more goals; two from Flo (making it a hatrick) and the final goal from Indie sealing a 4-1 win.
Well done to: Flo (7SR), Indie (7PL), Sofia (7PR), Charlotte (7PR), Rose (7EL), Esme (7SR), Bea (7EL) Lucy (7SL).
U16 Netball vs Monkton
On Monday, our Year 11 Netball team took on a strong Monkton side in the last 32 of the National Shield. The game started and it was end to end in the first quarter. Monkton came out strong and we were trailing 15 – 10 going into the third quarter. The third quarter was the best I have seen during my time in Hayesfield – the team stepped up, Gracie (11AR) showed excellent leadership, along with a group of Year 7 Netballers cheering the team on from the balcony. With excellent interceptions from our defence and pin point shooting we finished the game winning 33-28 and through to the Quarter Finals against Exeter School.
Player of the match: Robyn (11AR).
