Our Vision
“Dance to express, not to impress!”
Dance is a powerful and expressive subject which encourages pupils to develop their creative, physical, emotional and intellectual capacity, whatever the pupils previous experience in the subject. The study of dance enables students to develop socially whilst promoting creativity, fitness and well-being. As students become performers, they also develop their confidence, self-esteem and team working skills. Students develop knowledge and understanding of dance in the Hayesfield curriculum through performance, choreography and critical appreciation of Dance.

Homework
Key Stage 3
- Due to the nature of the subject, the Dance Department sets fewer written tasks but we strongly support attendance at Period 6 LEAP activities
- Homework typically includes: research projects about specific dance styles, choreographers and professional dance works
- Maximum intended length of homework per subject should normally be 30 mins per week in Year 7, extending to 45 minutes in Year 9
Key Stage 4
- Homework is set in line with the School Homework Policy and the intended length of homework is normally 1 hour per week
- Due to the nature of the assessments at GCSE, the Dance Department sets on-going practical homeworks throughout years 10 and 11 where students are expected to regularly record and video their practical evidence
- Theory homework typically included research projects focused on the set works, health and safety research and short answer questions, practice exam questions, consolidation homework and flipped learning work which can be in the form of presentations, delivery of warm-ups/cool downs and movement phrases to teach the rest of the class
