Now that we have the results of the allocation of places to Hayesfield, managed by the Local Authority, I am writing to welcome you and your daughter to our School. It is a very exciting time for all involved and we are looking forward to meeting and working with you and your daughter. We are dedicated to securing a positive transition process from primary school to secondary school for all our students and feel that your involvement and commitment is crucial.

The first date for your diary is our Welcome Evening for Year 6 Parents, which is being held on Thursday 20th June 2019. This will take place at the Upper Oldfield Park Campus from 5.45pm – 7.30pm. Please be aware that, unfortunately, there is no on-site parking available and so you will need to allocate time to find some parking. Although this evening is for you, the parents, your daughter is very welcome to attend, too.

The programme for the Welcome Evening is attached.
It is important that you bring your programme with you to this event as we have groups of parents scheduled for talks in the Roper Theatre at different times.

By the time we see you in June, Mrs Venables the Year 7 Transition and Pastoral Manager, will have visited the majority of our prospective students in their Primary Schools to meet them prior to their Induction Day on the 4th July. During these visits, she will answer many questions with the help of our Year 7 Student Buddies.

We appreciate you may also have lots of questions regarding your daughter starting at Hayesfield in September and our Welcome Evening is a hugely valuable opportunity to have these questions answered and find out more information that will be useful to you. During this event you will have the opportunity to mingle with new parents and meet members of our staff who will be working with your daughter.

As part of the transition process, your daughter has the opportunity to nominate three friends that she works well with and would like to be in a tutor group with. We will endeavour to place her in a tutor group with at least one of these friends. Please discuss this choice with your daughter so that you are all happy with her nominations before the Welcome Evening. At this event you will then be asked to complete a Friendship Request slip with her choices and these will be collected at the end of the evening.

We are currently in the process of preparing the Parents’ Handbook 2019 which will be available for you to collect on the evening and will be published on our website nearer that time. The Handbook is full of very useful information about joining our Hayesfield community and contains a Reply Booklet for you to complete.

Following on from the Welcome Evening we are looking forward to your daughter spending the day with us on her Induction Day on Thursday 4th July when she will have the opportunity to meet the rest of the year group and enjoy a complimentary school lunch. By the end of this day we are certain your daughter will feel less nervous, more confident and very excited about coming to Hayesfield in September.

Once again, welcome to our school and I look forward to meeting you on the Thursday 20th June.

Yours sincerely

Emma Yates
