Character Development

Character Development

At Hayesfield, Character Development is at the heart of the student experience. Through our curriculum, tutor programme and wider opportunities, students develop the confidence, resilience, moral courage and limitless aspirations to thrive at school and beyond.

Our approach is built around four interconnected strands: Belonging, Exploring, Challenging and Leading. Together, these provide opportunities for students to put our Hayesfield values into practice, experience British values in action and make a positive contribution to their community.

Self-Confidence

Every student has a voice and opportunities to make a difference. Through tutor and House representation, Year Councils, Student Parliament, Sixth Form leadership and ChangeMakers, students learn to take responsibility, represent others and influence positive change.

Resilience

Taking on challenges helps students develop independence, determination and resilience. Through sustained commitment, personal goals, competitions, expeditions and new experiences, students learn to make choices, overcome setbacks and recognise their own potential.

Moral Courage

Building positive relationships, contributing to our Houses and supporting others helps students develop a sense of community and belonging. Through shared experiences, charitable activities and community action, students learn to respect differences, demonstrate moral courage and make a positive contribution.

Limitless Aspiration

New experiences broaden horizons and encourage curiosity. Through LEAP, Enrichment Week, educational visits and wider opportunities, students discover interests, encounter different perspectives and develop the confidence to explore possibilities beyond the familiar.

Readiness and Respect

Our daily routines and expectations provide the foundations for character development. Through the tutor programme, students develop positive habits, understand their responsibilities and learn the importance of fairness, respect and contributing to a safe, supportive school community.
